There are various jobsites if you are looking for a job in Glasgow. The most popular are s1jobs.com, STV jobs, Gumtree, ScotCareers and Jobsite. These job sites combined contain literally thousands of jobs in and around the Glasgow area. To ensure that your hunt for a new job is successful you should look to sign up for job alerts from all of these sites.

S1jobs.com is by far the most popular jobsite in Scotland. It is operated by Newsquest media who produce over 200 newspapers, magazines and trade publications including the Evening Times and Scottish Herald. S1jobs is by far the most popular job board in Scotland and boasts an impressive 30,000 visitors a day with in excess of 4,000 live jobs, many of which are located in Glasgow. S1jobs also has an impressive career guide section of the website that includes CV and interview tips. They have an easy to operate search menu that allows you to select location, core skill, specialism and keywords. The advanced search allows a lot more functionality including full time or part time, salary range and contact or permanent.

STV jobs is operated by the STV Group, which also operates the television channel broadcasting to over 4 million people across Scotland every week. The search allows you to select location, sector, salary band, hours, contract and employer type. It’s very easy to operate and at the time of writing this article had over 400 jobs available in Glasgow.

Gumtree is a unique job board that has many jobs in Glasgow, posted by small, medium and large businesses as well as individuals who require work to be complete. Gumtree has 100’s of jobs in Glasgow and surrounding areas, for a massive variety of skillsets. From tradesmen to babysitters to IT specialists, it’s a very unique site that must be checked on a regular basis if you are trying to find a job.

ScotCareers are run by Trinity Mirror Digital Recruitment, they operate many other job sites including fish4jobs, JobSearch, Hot Recruit and Planet Recruit. It’s part of Trinity Mirror plc, which is one of the UK’s largest newspaper publishers. The career advice section is arguably the best from the 5 websites that I’ve mentioned. It includes tips for interviews and writing CVs and various other useful pages with information.

Jobsite is another massive job board with 1000’s of jobs across Scotland. They are operated by A&N Media which produces the Daily Mail and Metro newspapers. The website has vastly improved in recent times and has been subject to massive investment from its owners. They have also had a very successful television campaign with starring Max Beesley. We fully expect them to be one of the major players for online recruitment in 2012.

If you are serious about finding a job then submitting your CV to these sites and signing up for the daily job alerts is imperative to finding employment. These sites cover 90% of the jobs advertised in and around Glasgow.

It has been widely publicised that the jobs market in Glasgow is in turmoil with a city scarred by high unemployment and very little opportunities but if you check many of the job sites daily you will find that’s not the case. There are actually a great range of Glasgow Jobs out there.

Glasgow is a wonderful, vibrant city with a great range of locations to live. Merchant City and West End are arguably the pick of the bunch with their amazing selections of restaurants and bars. If you don’t live in the city already then you should spend some time learning about the geography and where you might like to live. It may also be an idea to look at the job opportunities in your chosen area to see if they suit you.

The best way to find jobs in Glasgow would be to search one of the many recruitment websites. Most of these websites have a specific job search facility where you can look for jobs in your chosen sector. An example of this would be if you were looking for retail jobs then you could search for ‘retail jobs in Glasgow’.

Glasgow has many prominent industries and there tends to be an abundance of vacancies available for these. The one’s that tend to appear on the Glasgow jobsites again and again are:

Accountancy Jobs

Health and Safety Jobs

Customer Service Jobs

Graduate Jobs

Beauty and Hairdressing Jobs

PR Jobs

IT Jobs

NHS Jobs

Bar Jobs

Restaurant Jobs

Security Jobs

Cleaning Jobs

Driving Jobs

As you can see from the extensive list, there is a good selection of jobs in Glasgow that should interest individuals from every walk of life. Although it’s a lucrative job market, it’s also competitive so you should ensure that you have a professional CV and detailed covering letter when applying for any jobs. You may also want to check other recruitment sites to utilise their online tools, which include job email alerts, advice on CVs and covering letters, interview tips and techniques, and careers questionnaires and videos.
